Mr. Hayao Miyazaki
Studio Ghibli
Dear Mr. Miyazaki,
Greetings from XXX Junior and Senior High School! My name is Chris Kozak. I teach about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically about the climate crisis (気候危機) to hundreds of children and young adults. I believe that Japan is suffering greatly due to floods, landslides, extreme forty-degree heat, and lack of climate action in all levels of government. It is everyone’s responsibility to act according to the findings of the 2018 IPCC Special Report stating the scientific evidence that urgent action is required to reduce CO2 levels to prevent more than 1.5 degrees of warming.
I am writing you today to ask for your creative talent and influence to reach Japanese people to think, talk, and act against climate change. I think your award-winning storytelling would be a fantastic way for people to learn and act on climate. From reducing single-use plastic sold in stores, to electrifying our transportation system, to transitioning to 100% sustainable wind, solar, and hydroelectric power and ending financial support for coal power - we all need to act quickly and use every tool to imagine a peaceful, clean future for Japan.
This is Letter Of Intent (LOI) recognizes the first broad agreement between me (Chris Kozak) and you (Mr. Miyazaki) to work together to raise awareness of the climate crisis, not just in Japan, but to teachers, parents, policy-makers, and the youth of the world that will be more able to imagine a place they would feel happy and healthy to flourish in.
Sincerely,
Chris Kozak
