COVID-19 has forced teachers and students to learn about using technology at an uncomfortably fast pace. In the past if I had a question, occasionally a student was able to answer and help out. But since they don't have the privilege of seeing how the Google Classroom sausage is made, there's no chance of them assisting me with the back-end of things.
If your students don't have the Files App installed, you might run into some problems depending on where you save the file. In the example I show you, I save it on the device. Maybe it's faster saving it directly to the Google Drive. This method made the second step (uploading) pretty easy.
